We have all been there, winter is upon you, you are huddled in twenty jumpers ( or one, dependent on your latitude) and you can’t help but think of all the other places you could be at that moment. Climbing a mountain in Nepal, surfing a righteous wave in Bali, sunning yourself on Cococabana Beach, or shaking hands with an art dealer in Italy. Pretty much anywhere but right here right now. Then you look at your social media feed, and lo and behold, someone has posted their holiday pictures. Brilliant. That is the depressive nature of social communication. But really, who can blame them.
So if you are going on holiday this winter, think of the poor people you have left behind who will longingly gaze at you smiling in strangely familiar poses in front of various vistas. Then post them anyway. If you are not going on holiday and you wish you were, just do it. What have you got to lose? There is no point looking back and wishing you had done something when you no longer have the ability (unless you have used your holiday quota, in which case i share in your sadness). If you live in a tropical paradise, then we are all sincerely jealous. Pipe down. If you want cold, rain and snow, i know of someone willing to house swap. Tomorrow.
What is your opinion? Are you a winter traveller, or do you save the holiday time for summer? If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be? And why aren’t you there? See you tomorrow!
